Have you ever found yourself with a pile of clothing that you're not quite sure what to do with? That was me, staring at these vibrant tank tops that had been sitting in my closet for almost two years. I couldn't even remember why I had ordered them in the first place, and their bold colors seemed to mock my lack of inspiration. But then, like a stroke of creative lightning, the idea of reverse tie dye struck me, and I knew I had to give it a try.
Reverse tie dye is a technique that involves removing color from fabric rather than adding it. It's the perfect solution for those items of clothing that are just a bit too bold or bright for your taste. Armed with a few simple supplies and a newfound enthusiasm, I embarked on my reverse tie dye adventure.
First, I gathered my materials: bleach, rubber bands, gloves, and a spray bottle. I laid out my tank tops on a protected surface and began twisting and folding them into intricate patterns, securing them with rubber bands to create the desired design. Then, with careful precision, I sprayed the bleach onto the fabric, watching as the vibrant colors faded away to reveal beautiful, subtle patterns beneath.
As I worked, I found myself lost in the meditative rhythm of the process. Each twist of the fabric, each spray of bleach, felt like a small act of transformation. It was incredibly satisfying to see the colors shift and change before my eyes, turning something old and forgotten into something new and exciting.
Once they were tie dyed, we added some of our most popular designs to them in our stretchy vinyl. You can check them out here: https://tennesseehippie.com/collections/tees.
